Update via Rob Wentz the developer in the comments below: "Just wanted to follow up here that monstrumWaveXT is currently a stand-alone editor, VST/AU functionality has been "downgraded" to "beta" status.

This is all because I restructured things so now monstrumWaveXT does not require any ctrlr install to work. There is a monstrumWaveXT application file for the stand-alone editor (which now has full wavetable and waveform editing and arrangement ability!) and there is a beta VST for os x and one for Windows. Development is ongoing and I'm getting a lot of great feedback from users, so the "beta" should be lifted from the name in due time.

Also on a similar note I recently released an editor -monstrumWave1 for the original Waldorf Microwave. It has all of the features monstrumWaveXT has in terms of parameter AND waveform/wavetable editing capabilities."

  1. How can they charge for this when it's built on and runs within the CTRLR open source software? I thought the whole thing about that was that anybody could use open source software like this and add to it as long as they don't charge money for these modifications.

  3. not quite how things work.

If I code a Lua application in notepad++, which is free, the application I code must also be free?

monstrumWave is not a modification of Ctrlr. It is a panel that can be used alone or within Ctrlr. End users have full rights to sell their work developed within ctrlr. Atom (ctrlr's lead developer) has fully blessed the retail release of this editor. Please feel free to drop by ctrlr.org and post your concern if this doesn't clear things up for you.

  5. Yeah, most of the ctrlr panels available are free, there are a few or the more feature robust panels, like this one with lots of added features that have been continuously built on over a year or so that are only available for sale. I'm a regular donator to ctrlr, so what comes around goes around!

It's only $39.99 and customers get free updates for life. Next new feature going in is a wavetable editor. Waves within each table can be edited by hand-drawing the waveform, plotting algebraic expressions or loading wave/aif files.

Here's the short list of new features just around the corner:
-Development of multi-mode step-sequencer is next in priority, allows independent editing of all 10 part's arpeggiator steps and parameters.
-Assignable XY cross-modulation controllers - parameters are set in panel "learn mode", click to assign any parameter to X or Y axis.
    -Save/Load Program to/from midi/txt file
    -Save/Load Arp Patterns
    -Save/Load Free/Wave Envelopes
-II/XT/XTk Autodetection dynamically sets appropriate panel functions
